Edward Samuel was born in 1812 in Russian controlled Poland, into a devout Jewish family.  His paternal grandfather was a Rabbi over twenty thousand Jews.  Edward was therefore trained in the strictest form of Judaism and had memorized the Psalm and Song of Solomon by the age of seven.  As an infant, he had smallpox and measles together through which he lost his eyesight.  He was blind for a year and then marvelously, his sight returned.  The previous Czar of Russia had not required Jews to be part of the army, but the new Czar required it.  His devout family, realizing that he and his brother would not be able to keep the Sabbath nor follow their dietary standards, smuggled he and his brother out of Poland.  After a meandering journey,  he arrived in London, for as he says in his brief autobiogaphy,  "The Sovereign Lord had ordained that Edward Samuel would become a follower of Jesus Christ in London."   He came to Christ through the ministry of Jewish believers at the Episcopal Jews Chapel.  He struggled mightily with guilt over the Passover and the Sabbath until the Lord brought him to understand that Christ was His Passover Lamb and His Sabbath Rest.  After a time, he left the Jewish congregation and met with the independents and eventually, becoming convinced of believer's baptism, he became a Baptist pastor.  We know nothing of him after age thirty except the two marvelous books, The Triumph of Christ on the Cross, and The Triumph of the Holy Spirit In The Believers Life.  He literally breathes scripture.  I compare him to William Romaine in his breadth of Godly Wisdom.
